Railings in the stairwell are completed. Mr. Guthery stated that the awning has been re-quoted. There was discussion concerning the options and types of awnings, and how it will be paid for and where money will come from.
Principals Reports: St. Mary’s: The ITBS test scores were discussed. Mr. Jones stated that students really like the interaction with the older students. Teachers enjoyed having everyone in one room for the Halloween party; it was easier to interact with all of the students. He thanked Mr. Koester and all of the teachers and students for making the Halloween party a success, and stated he would discuss the possibility of a Christmas activity with Mr. Koester. Fall Fun Festival was held at Sacred Heart, attendance was down, but we did have some people come from Sacred Heart participate. Mr. Jones stated that 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students went to Spiva Art Center and looked at the artist renderings from the tornado. He stated that in September he was contacted by Adam from Wal-Mart requesting he write a grant and was put in contact with Becky Wood in Arkansas and worked with her completing the grant. The grant was originally written for computers for the 5th graders. He stated that after all was said and done they received a check from Wal-Mart for 40,000. There was some discussion concerning grants, fundraisers, and donations and how they should be processed and handled. Mr. Jones stated that he had a lady from Kansas City contact him concerning a donation, he has given the information to Mrs. Motazedi to follow up on. He stated that during John Englands’ recuperation period Brandon would be coming over and helping. Mrs. Moore stated that the fence has been approved by Gene Aug. Discussion of which area would be completed first.
St. Peter’s: Mr. Emory stated that he lost 1 student, so enrollment is at 79. ITBS test scores were discussed.
He stated Mrs. Bickford has received some refurbished microscopes, boiler working and has been fixed.
McAuley: Mr. Koester stated that tomorrow would be a big day for students, art day in Pittsburg, students going to NCYC, and students going to see Mid-Summer Night’s Dream in Kansas City. He stated that the last standardized test will be Dec. 7th. There will be a planned moment of silence during Homecoming 2012 on February 10th for the victims of the tornado. We hope to have the new bricks which will include the Howard family. He and Coach Williams are planning to meet with MSSU, meeting will be put off until MSSU gets their new football coach; we are going into our last year of our football contract. The busses are painted and have Joplin Area Catholic Schools and the Warrior emblems on both sides. There are still a few problems with some of them; one with a fuel line, and one of the batteries and dash board lights. Usage has been wonderful; tonight we used the small bus, the small bus has been very helpful for some of the smaller group usage. Getting ready to talk with the Pepsi Corporation and stated the booster club has not been satisfied with the service from Coca-Cola. As far as sports Conference, it has been our desire for awhile to see if we could become part of the Spring River Valley Conference, we made a request, request has been denied, we will continue to remain with Ozark 8 Conference, our football team will remain independent. He complimented the Fall Fun Night at Sacred Heart; he has received lots of compliments from the people of Sacred Heart, and stated that Sandy McClintock, the parish secretary came to him and stated that they loved having the little kids there. The bi-annual boiler check up has been done; problems will be taken care of tomorrow. William Woods meets at McAuley Tuesday and Thursdays. There is a possibility for a new student coming to McAuley. His family and relatives live in the St. Louis area and have an older child going to Catholic School there, that school will not let him enter at the semester, he was referred to us since we have a Sevis program, all of the paperwork has been done on our end and it sounds pretty positive he will be coming here. The aunt visited McAuley and was impressed by what she saw and her son lives in the area, so the student would be staying with him. The Mirror has a good article concerning some of the McAuley students honored at the Southern Music Showcase. Springfield, Cape Girardeau, and McAuley were honored as district honor roll for significant gains in advanced placement access and student performance, which means two things one is we are giving more opportunities for advanced placement courses and that our students are scoring in the 3-4 range which is the magic number for AP. He stated that we are very proud of our program which is headed by Mr. Finder and Ms. Schrader. Another aspect is we are becoming more involved with our dual credit program, we have been involved with the MSSU program for a number of years, and within the last year we have gotten involved with Crowder which has a dual credit program and he was notified by Mr. Wiseman that MSSU is opening up more dual credit programs, which is beneficial to our students. Discussion concerning the $1,000 scholarships offered by MSSU.
Committee Reports: Finance Committee Mr. Churchwell stated that the McAuley building loan is down to $6,253, we are hoping with brick sales to reduce that some more. Major expenses have been sealing and striping the parking lot and transportation area, due to licensing and repair of new buses. Under comparison to budget we are 1/3 of the way thru the school year, the reason we are showing a loss so far is last year Annual Appeal money and magazine sales had already been deposited. These funds will show on next month’s reports. As far as comparison to last year for tuition/preschool/daycare, preschool is running a little behind but will catch itself up, just being divided over a shorter period of time. The daycare looks like it will be an issue from a standpoint of how much we will receive having lost 3 weeks or so of school. We are working with Mr. Aug and looking into business interruption service, we might be able to recover some lost funds. He stated we came up short on the magazine sales, and Sr. Corita fund. Some donated funds for St. Mary’s recovery and rebuild have built up. Fr. Justin brought up last month that we need to get transferred to the Diocese. Individual accounts can be established. The funds earn interest and will all be kept in separate accounts to be held until the need arises for the money to be used here. He requested approval from the board to get accounts established and transfer the money. Mr. Guthery asked if once the money is there can it be brought back here when we desire it or will we have to have Diocesan approval to get it. Mr. Churchwell stated they require we either fax or email them a request with 2 signatures and they will send us a check.
Jeff Hughey made the motion to transfer the money, Randy Guthery seconded, all in favor, none opposed. Motion approved.
Development Committee Dan Pekarek stated that they had a Development Board meeting and now that things are getting somewhat back to normal after the tornado the development Board is requesting that all fundraising activities and donation activities come thru the Development office for accountability of the funds and also to provide reports. Dan further stated that the Development Office is ready to resume the duties that are associated with the development office relative to fund raising policy.
Renee Motazedi stated that she was very proud of the McAuley students that were used for pace setters; the students were asked to do it charitably, they reached 100% participation, the students showed great leadership, without any prompting or request from her part, with the total given of $585.36. We also had an anonymous donor who offered a dollar for dollar match. In addition to that another donor will give a gift to McAuley. She stated that the kick off went really well, attended by about 40 people, food was good. The theme is “All in for JACS All in for JESUS”, we have poker chips, brochures are in, we are working on the mailer and it will go out next week. Renee stated we received a grant from the Missouri Knights of Columbus. She is working on the online giving, hopefully very soon that will be available. Discussion of fundraisers: magazines, cards and other ideas.
Alumni Mr. Koester stated there was nothing different from report.
Old Business: Mr. Koester stated that Tamko made a visit, custodian went around with them, he stated he had a meeting and told the gentlemen that he wanted to meet with them, they assured him they would be available for him after his meeting, but when he came out of his meeting they were gone, and he has not heard anything from Tamko.
