ADMISSION
St. Mary's Preschool and Prekindergarten in Joplin accepts children of all denominations. The preschool student must have turned three(3) years old prior to August 1st to be eligible for admission to the preschool program. Prekindergarten students must be four (4) years old by August 1st. TEACHERS Our Preschool and Prekindergarten teachers are state certified and teach all classes. A trained aide helps our teachers with any class of more than 10 students. SESSIONS Morning three-day, two-day, or five-day sessions are available for Preschool enrollment. Extended Day Care is offered for those students enrolled in morning Preschool and desiring Day Care for before or after sessions. Day Care fees include a daily nutritious lunch and snack. St. Mary's offers a 5 day a week Prekindergarten program for 4 or 5 year olds who will attend Kindergarten the next school year and demonstrate a readiness for more academic structure than the regular preschool program. Incorporated with the usual preschool environment, the class features introduction to phonetics and beginning reading skills, as well as more emphasis on writing and letter formation. Children are also introduced to more formal math concepts through play and manipulatives. The class is offered daily during a morning or afternoon session. Day Care is available during the morning or afternoon. OUR GOALS One goal of St. Mary's Preschool is to develop a love of learning for three-, four-, and five-year-old children. Through various activities children develop beginning concepts in math, reading, language arts, science, art, music, and physical education. Young students experience the joys of independent learning in our readiness room while working at "learning centers." They also enjoy participating in group games, discussions, and dramatizations. Another goal is to help children develop attributes of Christian living. It is hoped each child will sense a loving God and will have an understanding of the important concepts of sharing, caring and loving. At St. Mary's Preschool children will experience success and growth in self-esteem. They should have a better understanding of working and playing with their peers and an eagerness to explore the world around them. ENROLLMENT Students should apply for admission in early February for the following school year due to limited space. If openings are available, preschool and prekindergarten accept enrollments anytime during the school year. FEES AND TUITION Families registered in one of our three supporting parishes, St. Mary's, St. Peter's, or Sacred Heart, who are active stewards can participate in our Preschool or Prekindergarten program at half of the tuition rate. The stewarship subsidy from our parishes absorbs the other half. Please contact St. Mary's Elementary at 417-623-1465 for more information. For Catholic families not registered in one of our three parishes or non-Catholic families, you may also contact the school directly regarding options for fees and tuition. |
