McAuley Catholic’s National Honor Society organized and facilitated a book drive as their first semester project. During the weeks of Dec. 7-Dec. 16, 2020 the students collected more than 230 books. The donated books include educational, children’s, young adults, religious, non-fiction and more. Students separated the donated books into categories, bagged them and prepared them for donation.
The NHS members delivered the books to Katy Johnson at the Lafayette House in Joplin. While there the students learned about the services that are provided by the Lafayette House. The Lafayette House provides a safe sanctuary, and compassion to help heal the effects of domestic violence, sexual assault and substance use disorders.
