Have you heard about the worldwide Synod on Synodality?

SAVE THE DATE for the Synodal Consultation at St. Mary’s Parish: Tuesday, May 3rdat 6:30 p.m. and St. Peter’s Parish: Thursday, May 5th, 6:30 p.m.!

What is it? The global Catholic Church is holding a synod (assembly, discussion) which takes place at the level of parishes, dioceses, nations, and the entire Church. “Synodality” means our ability as a Church to communicate, learn, and adapt at a communal level, from bottom to top, a listening process where all Catholics can listen and learn from each other.

How does this benefit us? This is a way for us not only to bring our reflections to the desk of Pope Francis, but to discern how we can better be the Catholic Church as a diocese, as the local Joplin Church, and as a parish.

What is the synodal meeting? Our priests and parish council will facilitate discussion on how we can better live out our identity as the Catholic Church, the people of God and body of Christ. This is not simply an “airing of grievances,” but certainly, constructive criticism is to be welcomed with respect and gratitude. We should realize that all of us, clergy and laity, are responsible to work in harmony to build up the Kingdom in our parish with respect for our various gifts and states of life. After the synodal meeting, our reflections will be shared with the diocese and brought into the larger discussion.
