Mercy-Warrior Activities Week

The idea behind the Joplin Area Catholic Schools’ Mercy-Warrior Activities Week stemmed from the need to improve and streamline fundraising efforts for organizations in all three schools, St. Mary’s, St. Peter’s and McAuley Catholic.

The Sisters of Mercy were founded on September 24, 1827, when Catherine McAuley first opened the House of Mercy in Ireland and dedicated it to Our Lady of Mercy. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, the Sisters of Mercy, our JACS system, and others around the world celebrate Mercy Day every year on September 24^th. Additionally, Founders Day, celebrated on October 4^th, is the date on which the Sisters of Mercy began Catholic education in Joplin in 1885.  To commemorate these two historical dates, Mercy-Warrior Activities Week will be held yearly from September 24^th to October 4^th. Mercy Hospital is the presenting sponsor of the event.

Beginning on Saturday, September 24^th, St. Mary’s Home and School will kick off this exciting and fun week with a Cornhole tournament on the campus of St. Mary’s.

The events for the week include a meal on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at McAuley Catholic. Meals are $5 per person and begin at 5:30 p.m. A variety of activities will occur throughout the week and include:

All proceeds from each event will benefit the sponsoring organization listed.

In addition to the exciting week of activities, our students and families are seeking business sponsorships from September 1 through September 16. These sponsorship opportunities can be found here.

Your generous donation will help a number of activities and organizations eliminate the need to have as many small fundraisers throughout the remainder of the year.

How to participate: There are several ways to participate including

• Assist in securing business sponsorships for the week
• Enjoy dinners at McAuley Catholic – Dinners are $5 per person and begin at 5:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: Hot dogs, chips and dessert
  • Monday: Dinner with our Faculty as they compete for top JACS Chef
  • Tuesday: Take and Bake Meals
  • Thursday: Pulled pork, coleslaw and dessert
  • Friday: Enchiladas, cheese dip, and dessert
• Participate in events:
  • Saturday: Cornhole at St. Mary’s – 6 p.m. $50/adult team, $25/kid team
  • Sunday: Dodgeball at McAuley – 4 p.m. – $10/person or $60/team
  • Monday: JACS Staff Cookoff
  • Thursday: Golf Tournament at Briarbrook – 9 a.m. – $280/team
  • Friday: Trivia Night at McAuley – 6 p.m. – $25/person
• Purchase items
  • Students will be selling – trash bags, meat sticks, and raffle tickets as well as the opportunity to sponsor community service hours for those in need.
  • Other items include Bracelets, Door Hangers, Fleece Blankets, JACS Bag, Stadium Cups, Metal Cups
